Phillip's Onesie Adventure -  part 7

Phillip map 8 Well the Texas chapter of the World Tour continues today as an early start after a good sleep greets me this morning. As I was nice and relaxed, I slept soundly in my onesie with the air conditioner on to simulate a cold night hehehe… Sometimes one just has to improvise when it comes to making the conditions right to snuggle up in a onesie. A long day in the car today, it was off to Amarillo. Now people will ask, “Why on earth did you go to Amarillo?” Well a couple of reasons… 1. To sing the Tony Christie classic “Im on my way to Amarillo”. 2. TO EAT STEAK!!! And eat steak I did. My 1 night in Amarillo had me dining at the famous “Big Texan Steakhouse” in Amarillo. Those who watch Man v Food will be aware that Adam Richman visited this establishment to demolish the 72oz steak.. I did consider it however on studying of the menu, I went for “The Tribute to Man v Food”. This meal considered of an 18oz prime rib, baked potato, shrimp, salad and a couple of bread rolls. For the record, I did demolish this meal without raising a sweat… Could have I done the 72oz steak? Only heaven knows!! So my 1 night in Amarillo had me also making sure I got some rather cheesy pics of me in front of a Route 66 sign.. The famous old route does go through Amarillo and onward to Albuquerque. Albuquerque is my next stop. With the steak digested from the previous night, it was up at my normal 7am and a light breakfast followed. Checking out of the Clarion Hotel Amarillo, it was straight onto the Interstate 40 heading west into New Mexico. A relatively short drive today, just 4 hrs in the car had me driving through some very arid, bare and barren country. I could have easily mistook this for outback Australia. Very similar indeed. It was hot, bone dry and windy. Temperatures nudging 40 celsius. Being from Australia, I am used this these conditions, so managing the situation was easy. Arriving into Albuquerque it was straight to my hotel located out near the airport for good reason. I was on a relatively early flight the next morning. Albuquerque the capital of New Mexico with a population of just over half a million residence located pretty much in the middle of nowhere gave me an opportunity to have one of the most delicious cinnamon scrolls I have ever encountered. Yes my insides probably are regretting every bite but my god it was tasty. The Frontier Restaurant was the location for this dining delight. So another day draws to a close and its time to organise for the next day. I organise my bags in readiness to encounter AMERICAN AIRLINES… This day was no different. After dropping my car at the rental depot off the airport, it was to the terminal to check in for my AA flight to Salt Lake City via Dallas Fort Worth. So 2 flights today, both on the MD 80 rust buckets that AA seem to have many of in their domestic fleet. Albuquerque being just a mid size regional airport unfortunately didn’t have an airline lounge so it was off to the viewing area to kill time. Boarding was announced and soon thereafter my flight took off on time and landed in Dallas on time. What I was impressed about is the inflight wifi on board. This allowed me to stay in touch with friends and family on the other side of the world all from 30,000 feet in the air. Landing on time and without issue in Dallas it was onto the Sky Train to Terminal D to find my connecting AA Flight to Salt Lake City. Everything is going fine, no real delays, no “I can’t find the gate”, everything going like clockwork. Boarding for the flight took place and soon I was off to Salt Lake City, Utah for the next 2 nights. Again wifi on board so I made use of that… Annoying the hell out of everyone back home as it was about 4am in Australia at this point in time. After the 2.5hr flight, it was on the ground with a perfect landing in Salt Lake and my American Airlines experience was complete. phillip Photo10
