Phillip's Onesie Adventure - Part 6

Onesies around the World part 6

I am now settled into my hotel (Crowne Plaza) in Houston and pretty tired. Yep its room service time… Roast chicken I think I had, wasn’t too bad either, that with my favourite north American soft drink, Canada Dry ginger ale. Great stuff… with loads of ice, very refreshing.

The next day it was off to the Kennedy Space Center “Houston We Have A Problem”… Those famous words!!! Seeing where history was made all those years ago and how America is a pioneer in space exploration. So exciting to see. It was a hot, humid day with rain showers for most of the afternoon.. So onesies, unfortunately you stayed in my bags…

Could you imagine Buzz Aldrin and Co in onesies in space? Rachel… Something to work on…?

But Houston was where my diet would change considerably… From cups of tea and pasties to the famous American BARBECUE!!! Oh I was in heaven…. Ribs, ribs and more ribs greeted me as I ate my way around America.

3 nights in Houston and the road trip (US Leg) begins… With a short prayer at the get go, I set off for a wonderful adventure. Its up early, some breakfast and I hit the road… First stop…. Driftwood.

Located just 15 miles from Austin, Texas... not many would know about Driftwood, Texas, but this place hosts, in my opinion, THE BEST BBQ joint in America. Salt Lick BBQ. OH MY GOD!!! The meat was just so succulent and tender and the peach cobbler for desert was just divine. I was most pleased to get a photo of me beside the BBQ pit by the “Pit Master”. The aroma of the meat was just OH MY GOD!!!! Words can’t describe this… Heaven!!!!

So after lunch it was off to Dallas… Home of Boot Scooting, BBQ and 10 Gallon Hats!!! Being brought up on a farm in Australia, I was looking forward to traveling through Texas to see their agriculture industry and how they raise their cattle and of course THE FOOD!!! 4 hours in the car up the highway and it was into Dallas late afternoon.

Checking into the Fairmont Dallas, one of the finest hotel chains in North America, I was privileged to upgrade myself into a suite for my 3 night stay.. Very happy indeed.

Dallas of course home to the Dallas Cowboys NFL and the Texas Rangers MLB sides, I was most impressed with their sporting stadiums. Both Rangers Field at Arlington and AT&T Stadium are the most outstanding stadiums for their sports in the world.  I also visited my 2nd favourite BBQ place in America, Smokeys BBQ in Arlington. I visited this place in 2012 on a previous trip, so impressed then, I went back for seconds in 2014. Still the same quality, still the same taste and yep… WIFI in house… So here I am having BBQ for dinner while listening to Alan Jones on the radio back in Australia. I love technology!!

As someone who literally puts people on planes for a living (Travel Agent), Dallas provided me with some plane spotting opportunities at DFW International Airport. For me, a sense of national pride was felt when seeing the Qantas 747 arrive in from Sydney. For the record, the Sydney - Dallas flight is the longest in the world to date. I was very pleased to capture this moment, and I guess it made me miss home a little.

Now if your wondering why didn’t I see the book depository where JFK was shot, I visited this on my 2012 journey.

For this who haven’t been to Dallas, the downtown area is a little “soulless” in my opinion… Most cities around the world have a certain atmosphere, character or charm to it… Dallas, very sterile!!

Anyway, Dallas done, its onto the next stage of the journey…. Dallas - Amarillo - Albuquerque.

Stay tuned for what I get up to next!!
